EXCLUSIVE PREVIEW: The BrownMark Interview, Part 1

Prince & The Revolution bassist BrownMark joins BD Freeman for Part 1 of a conversation that turns music history into lived memory. The episode begins with the psychological pressure of being known. BrownMark describes stalkers, fans crossing physical boundaries, hotel chaos, and the constant need to balance gratitude with self-protection. The strongest story comes early: a black cat bristling in the dark, a gun behind the pillow, and a late-night confrontation outside his house that shows how quickly attention can turn threatening.

From there, it pivots into Brown Mark’s beginnings as a musician. He talks about growing up in South Minneapolis, playing bass young, building a local reputation, and reaching the point where Prince began paying attention. BD keeps the questions direct, which helps Brown Mark tell the story cleanly: the pancake-house job, Kim Upsure running into the kitchen, the first close look at Prince, the rehearsal-space phone call, and the disbelief of realizing the invitation was real.
